Legislative Update 12-6
We have now completed the 23rd (of 30) Legislative Day of the 2012 session. Both the Education Budget (ETF) and the General Fund (GF) Budget have been introduced. The ETF budget appears to be “doable” despite some shortfalls compared to last year. Currently delayed in the Senate, we expect movement this week on the ETF budget (SB 318) which is currently set at $5.48 billion, about 2.7% less than this year’s budget. It will still have to go through the House. However the GF Budget (HB 433) remains a huge problem. Currently the GF budget, which includes as its biggest item the Alabama Medicaid budget, has been passed by the House and sent to the Senate F&TG Committee. Read More...

Registered nurses lead busy and important lives helping others. They, however, too often neglect their own needs in areas such as estate planning.Basically I recommend that every adult consider three documents that could save their loved ones money and a lot of trouble when they die. First, is the Advanced Directive for Health Care. Read More...
Alabama Board of Nursing Update
Carolyn G. Morgan, MSN, RN
Nurse Consultant, Continuing Education and Nursing Practice
CE Requirement for Nursing License Renewal Continuing Education (CE) became a requirement for nursing license renewal in Alabama in the early 1990s when the Alabama Legislature amended the Nurse Practice Act to require CE. (Code of Ala. 1975§ 34-21-23 (f)). The Alabama Board of Nursing’s Administrative Code expands on the statute by stating that the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse are individually accountable for continued competency to practice nursing including knowledge and compliance with applicable statutes and regulations (ABN Admin. Code, §§ 610-X-10-.02(1), 610-X-6-.04(2) (a)(i) and 610-X-6-.05(2)(a)(i)). Read More…
